Fundraising Dinner ~ Sept 26 2010

Catherine Tran Charity Fund has delivered several charitable projects in both VietNam and Canada. Two concrete bridges were built in rural areas in Vietnam: The Catherine Tran Bridge of Love, in Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau in January 2010. The bridges have helped hundreds of children to cross the river safely to school, especially in the raining seasons. Five hand-pumped wells were also built to bring clean water to families in rural areas of South Vietnam. In February, 2010, Catherine Tran Charity Fund participated in the relief effort for the victims in Haiti. In Canada, Catherine Tran Charity Team was formed mostly by Catherine’s friends and families and delivered Toy Mountain project in collaboration with CTV, badminton tournament at Woodbridge Collegiate Institute to raise funds for the charity fund and establish the Annual Catherine Tran scholarships to outstanding students at Woodbridge Collegiate Institute starting this school year.

On Sept 26, 2010 we successfully organized a fund raising event to remember Catherine Tran and to raise funds for more charity projects in the coming year. We would like to share a few lines from welcome remark which was written by Catherine’s dad and a poem dedicated to Catherine which was written by the Catherine Tran Charity team and a few pictures as below. Please click on the following links to view our revenue vs expense and donation list in the event, thanks.

Welcome Remark
May I start my welcome remark by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU!
Thanks to all of you who are present today and many more who can not come today but gave us so much thought, and support as well as donations.
I would like to say thanks on behalf of the Charity Team. With your support we have done quite a few good thing around the world. However, the most important thing is the involvement of the youths. A group of young teenagers, even yet making any money, or owing anything, they already learn the beauty of giving, sharing the true love and caring toward the other less fortunate. The number of guests that turns out today give them a stronger belief that YES WE DO CARE. It is not how much this charity can do; it is the seed that is implanted in their hearts, the hearts of these young beautiful boys and girls. I believe they will be growing up to be the most wonderful human beings.

I would like to say thank you you on behalf of all the poor children, the orphanages, the people who directly received the help from your support. Many of them brought in tears having a gulp of clean water from a fresh water well that they thought could never be real. Kids running back and forth on a new bridge that just built. The candy in an orphanage’s mouth ever tasted so sweet! A bicycle, that helps to shorten a trip to school, a hat that cools down a little girl’s head, and many more. All these could not be real without your generosity.

The last thank is from my family, and myself. Your support gives us the strength to overcome this whole ordeal. To find the gaining side in our tremendous lost, to help us move on ever stronger. To find out that this life has much more wonderful things we can do to enrich our existence. And just like Catherine Tran, she came to live her life to the fullest and when she had to leave; her spirit was a bridge to connect our hearts to the suffering world out there. It is an absolute gift of life Catherine had given to us. We hope to continue to fulfill Catherine’s meaningful dreams. Again, we thank you and hope you have a wonderfull evening.

The poem
Staring with grief in our hand
We stood tall with new thoughts of a plan
To create a charity team
In memory of our Catherine Tran

She inspired many minds
To accomplish all with purpose
To always keep our heads high
No matter how low the support is

And so we set off with one goal
Searching for those in despair
To shed some light on their souls
And show them that somebody cares

All they wanted was love
So love is what we showed them
All they needed was hope
So hope is what we gave them

We brought laughter to their eyes
And showed them love and care
Bringing meaning to their lives
A feeling felt so rare

This is who we are
Inspired by Catherine’s stride
We’re changing the world for all
To keep LOVE and HOPE alive
